I think the Rise & Fall of WCW book explained why Hogan-Kidman feud happened and mainly due to Hogan getting a lot of heat for always holding down talent or hogging the spotlight. Hogan wanted to prove that wasn't the case and he had no problem making new stars.

Kidman got a win or two in the feud but Hogan still went over and/or dominated enough of the feud so Kidman never got a real star making rub from it.
